Depositing checks in the US can be accomplished online, without driving to the bank or mailing checks. Users can scan checks with an ordinary conventional scanner, resulting in a subtitute check[1] which can then be uploaded for deposit through a banks web service.
Previously, a special MICR[2] scanner was needed.
There are many more banks that offer remote check deposit to businesses with a MICR scanner, probably too many to be useful to list here.

Remote deposit via snail mail
Edit
Some banks offer remote deposit the old-fashioned way, by sending endorsed checks in the mail. There are probably too many to justify a full table, but some are listed here: Alliant CU eDeposit, Bank of America, Chase, Capital One, Citibank, ING Direct, PNC, Pennsylvania State Employees CU (PSECU), SunTrust, Wachovia, Washington Mutual and Wells Fargo
Rumors
Edit
Editors - there are some banks rumored to have remote deposit, but there is no indication on the website. Please chase up the following Unconfirmed and undocumented remote deposit banks and either add them to the table or delete them from this list:

http://www.firsttechcu.com(this may have been part of the big planned update last year, but they ended up rolling back most of it, and only the billpay section got updated. Right now, there is no remote deposit available) - http://www.conestogabank.com
- US Bank (coming attraction, or already available?)
- Bunch of smaller credit unions appear to be getting into the remote deposit.
Some banks are planning to add remote deposit:
- Ally bank intends to add remote deposit by Q1 2011
